My family generations are from the Philippines, a beautiful country full of rich culture, warm people, and delicious food. Although I was raised in the United States, the Philippines holds a special place in my heart. It is where my roots are, and it is the place that shaped the lives of my parents, grandparents, and ancestors.
Living in the U.S. means that I don’t get to visit the Philippines as often as I would like. The flight from the U.S. to the Philippines is very long and can be exhausting. Traveling halfway across the world takes a lot of planning and preparation. It’s not something we can do frequently, but when we do make the trip, it’s always worth it.
When we visit, we make the most of every moment with our family in the Philippines. The feeling of being welcomed with open arms and warm smiles is priceless. Filipinos are known for their hospitality, and our relatives always go out of their way to make us feel at home. There is nothing like being surrounded by family and sharing stories, laughter, and good food together. It is during these visits that I feel most connected to my heritage.
One of my favorite things about the Philippines is its culture. It is a blend of traditions passed down through generations, influenced by history and various countries. From colorful festivals like Sinulog and Ati-Atihan to traditional dances like the Tinikling, there is so much to celebrate and enjoy. Filipinos have a strong sense of community, and you can feel it in the way people come together during fiestas, weddings, and other gatherings.
The people of the Philippines are another reason why I love going back. Filipinos are kind, friendly, and always ready to help. Even if you are meeting someone for the first time, they will treat you like family. It’s inspiring to see how resilient and joyful they are, even when facing challenges. Their positive outlook on life is something I deeply admire.
And of course, I can’t talk about the Philippines without mentioning the food! Filipino food is amazing. There are so many dishes that are unique to the Philippines, and each region has its own specialties. Some of my favorites include lechon, pancit, lumpia, and adobo. When I visit, I make it a point to try as many local dishes as possible. The flavors are always so rich and comforting. I also love the fresh tropical fruits like mangoes and coconuts that are hard to find in the same quality here in the U.S.
In my blog, I want to share more about the Philippines. I will write about the culture, the people, and most of all, the delicious food that makes the Philippines special. Whether you have Filipino roots like me or are just curious about this beautiful country, I hope my stories will inspire you to learn more about it and maybe even visit one day. The Philippines has so much to offer, and I’m excited to share it with you!
