Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem because there was a census, a count of all the people in the land. Since Joseph was from Bethlehem, he and Mary had to go there. When they arrived, they found that all the inns were full. There was no room for them to stay. So, they had to stay in a stable, a small building where animals were kept. It was in this humble place that Jesus was born. Mary wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, which is a feeding trough for animals.

The birth of Jesus was not just a private event. That night, an angel appeared to some shepherds who were watching over their sheep in the fields. The angel told them the good news: the Savior had been born! The shepherds were amazed and hurried to find the baby Jesus. When they saw Him, they rejoiced and spread the word about the miracle they had witnessed. Later, wise men, known as the Magi, came from the East, following a star that had appeared in the sky. They brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to honor the new King.
